LIGHT IT UP BLUE! 17/04/2012
Hello Whimsies! I'm really starting to get my head around the techy stuff now. Just in time too! Did you know April is Autism Awareness Month? I know we’re halfway through April, but regardless of that, We have just launched our AAW sale! 10% of all sales from now until the 15th of May, will be donated to Autism Qld. There are many charities worthy of our support, but for us, this one is personal. In November last year my wee lad was diagnosed with Autism – we are now part of the 1 in 54 statistic*. Autism Queensland are helping us and we are currently launching into and Early Intervention program that will help him (and me!) immensely. Autism Queensland is a community based, not for profit, Incorporated Association. They provide services to children and adults with ASD and to their families. So, if you want to help Light it Up Blue, head over to our online shop and grab some BLUE lanterns. We have light blue, dark blue, polka dot blue, lace lanterns and star lanterns in BLUE. And if you’re not in the mood for blue, you can purchase your favourite and we’ll still donate 10%! If you are not in the market at all for lanterns you can still help – by making yourself aware. Autism is not a tragedy, but ignorance is! Cheers, Megz PS – I’m a newbie to the game but I am happy to answer any questions about Autism. If I don’t know the answer I will do my best to find out! PPS – We would LOVE to see photos of your Light it Up Blue efforts so please share them on our Facebook page or email to info@moonlightandwhimsy.com.au *statistics have recently been revised and the prevalence of ASD has risen to 1 in 88 children, 1 in 54 boys. eep! Hello Whimsies - Old and New, As most of you are aware, Ezz has moved on to a different world, spreading her awesomeness in different fields and I, Megan, have taken over the reins of Moonlight & Whimsy. Some of you may know me from my intern days! I am super excited about this venture and hoping (with all possible digits crossed) that I don’t make a mess. I appreciate your support in this transition period, and also into the future. At the moment I am still learning the ropes regarding the website & blog etc but should have a handle on it soon, I have quite a few ideas brewing so keep an eye out. Cheers, Megan Changing Hands 06/03/2012
It is with a mixture of joy and sadness that I write this update. Sadness because this will be the last update I ever write for Moonlight & Whimsy and joy because it is going to someone who I know will do a fantastic job. You may all remember my intern Megan - and what a fanTASTIC job she did in the 6 months she was with me. She not only learned the ropes but superceded my expectations. She's a gifted designer, exceptionally creative and I am super-proud that she is "all growed up now" and is taking the reins while I pursue my media career. I know that you'll join me in congratulating Megan on her new business venture and her future success. It's been a wonderful journey - I thank you all for being there with me every step of the way. Whimsical Wednesday 20/09/2011
We're pretty excited to be styling some gorgeous weddings on the Sunshine Coast this Spring - two of which involve canopies! One in particular sees the addition of a brand new BAMBOO ARBOUR to our hire range and we can't wait to see it in action! Canopies have been an outdoor wedding staple since well, time began - there's just something terribly romantic about soft chiffon blowing in the wind as you gaze lovingly into each others eyes.... *cough* Anyway. Here are some interesting ideas that we've pinned this week. We can't resist picnic wedding inspiration! So simple and so romantic... Of course not all canopies need to be dressed in white! Infuse your own colours and style into the design - just magic! Not exactly bamboo but still an enchanting idea! How amazing is that candlestick holder?! Just a smattering of the ideas we've picked up this week. From the quirky to the whimsical, the classic and in-between - there's something for everyone! Want a canopy of your very own for your wedding or next special event? Look no further! Our bamboo canopy comes fully draped and set up for the one low price. Interested? Welcome to our SECOND Weekly Whimsical Wrapup - a place where we post about what caught our eye this week. Here's what we found... An oldie but a goodie. This beautiful DIY idea for Printed Paper Garlands was published over at Project Wedding a few months back - but we just keep coming back to it - it's just divine! A little work - but for those who like the quirky hand-made newsprint look - this is a must-see! Oh oh oh Ruffled Blog - your inspiration is unending. This week, we were simply enchanted by this divine "handmade" Melbourne wedding. We're just a sucker for "handmade" paper elements in weddings - and this one was no different - with boxes, pinwheels and books GALORE. Such a sweet, simple colour scheme and the bridal party just sparkled with happiness. L.O.V.E. Okay - we get it. Personalised Ribbon isn't exactly a new phenomenon. But this particular ribbon from The Lonely Heart in Arizona just screams rustic charm. It can be used to wrap around bouquets, tie favours, wrap gifts - not to mention for a plethora of craft and scrapbooking uses. Check out their other items too - scalloped-edge music confetti, hand-stamped feathers (BE STILL, MY BEATING HEART!! ) and much much more! As most of you know, the concept for Moonlight & Whimsy came from our many trips to Japan. There's just something enchanting about paper lantern-lit celebrations that makes our little Moonlight & Whimsy hearts sing! So....we were pretty excited when The Perfect Wedding Company hired our Festoon Lighting for a Japanese-themed event on the weekend! They did SUCH a gorgeous job - and of course our Festoons just lit the place up beautifully. Swing by and visit their Facebook page - and tell them we sent you! That's about it from us this week. Don't forget we're at the South Bank Markets tonight (weather permitting!). We have our brand new sign (ooooh) and some wicked Halloween specials on our entire paper lantern range. Don't miss it! Whimsical Wednesday - Chair Decoration 12/09/2011
We are absolutely fascinated by chair decoration. Oh - it's easy to whack on a lycra cover and tie a satin sash around it in your colour of choice - but there is a real scope for incorporating your guests seating into your overall design. Something we see a lot of is Ribbon Decoration. And why not? A perfect, inexpensive way to showcase your exact colours and really give a "feel" for your event. Of course you're not "tied" (sorry!) to just ribbon. Think about other decorative elements you can draw on. Dried flowers? Straw? Garlands? Even paper pinwheels and origami can deliver a fun, whimsical touch. A fun and quirky way to dress up your chairs, is by using letter-bunting. Check out these fun examples! As usual - all of today's inspiration can be found at our Pinterest account- pop over and repin to your heart's delight! Got some weird, wonderful and whimiscal ideas for your event? Need someone to pull it all together? Email us and we'll be happy to have a completely non-obligation chat either over coffee - or even email! We'd love to hear from you. What's New M&W? 12/09/2011

Have a wonderful, whimsical week everyone! Weekly Whimsical Wrapup #1 09/09/2011
Welcome to the first of what we hope will be many "Weekly Whimsical Wrapups" - where we will highlight a few of the bits and pieces that caught our fancy during the week. Green Wedding Shoes (how we adore thee!) posted this A-MAZ-ING tutorial for DIY Tissue Tassel Garlands. We have a teensy-tiny vendor-crush on Confetti System so the idea that we could make something that was even vaguely reminiscent of their work was very exciting. Have you ever attempted a Tassel Garland - or something similar? We'd LOVE to see it! Offbeat Bride posted a gorgeous post on Paper Flower Inspiration. From delicate tissue-paper flowers to the incredible stylings of Bookworm Eats Flower (seriously – what an awesome name!) – there’s something in there to suit all budgets and tastes! I particularly love the non-traditional look to the below bouquet. What a fascinating idea! This week Etsy brought the wonderful world of Handmade Wedding Accessories to our attention and oh my, don’t Potter + Butler have an exquisite collection! We fell in love with their “Cake Pom” collection and their “Glitter Twigs” with custom name sashes are just about the cutest thing EVER!! So many customer photos to choose from this week - but we just HAD to share this with you! Our very good friends at Lance Jackson Photography nabbed a packet of our Fairy Berries - and used them for well, lighting up a sailing boat...as you do! Lance assures me that there are more "conventional" photos to come - but he couldn't resist this shot first! Well that's about it from us today! A huge congratulations to all of our brides and party-goers this weekend. Have a fabulous time - and we'll be back next week with more Moonlight and/or Whimsy. :) Whimsical Wednesday - Shepherds Hooks 05/09/2011
Shepherds Hooks – how we adore thee!! Helpful for shepherding lost creatures, and EVEN BETTER – holding gorgeous flowers and decorations at your event! Depending on where you hire them from, they come in a range of sizes and shapes – even colours. One of the most common uses of Shepherds Hooks are flower balls. Match them with ribbons in similar hues, or even rose petals for a simple, elegant statement. We might be biased – but our favourite object to dangle from a Shepherd’s Hook is of course the trusty paper lantern. And why not! They’re inexpensive, come in a range of colours and can be dressed up or dressed down to suit the occasion. Of course there are a myriad of other uses too – mosaic lanterns, tin buckets, birdcages, crystal lightshades... ... even pumpkins! The sky is the limit! You can incorporate any aspect of your wedding cheaply and easily using these versatile little hooks. Of course we wouldn’t just throw you all of that inspiration without telling you where to get them from! Moonlight & Whimsy hire Shepherds Hooks in packets of 6 or 12 – starting from only $55! We currently have them in black, however we are able to source them in cream also – so if you’re “hooked” on this idea – drop me a line! erica@moonlightandwhimsy.com.au As usual we have a Pinterest board dedicated solely to this week's topic. Come and say hi and repin some of our ideas to your own inspiration boards! Have a wonderful Whimsical Week! E |
